10.08.10: New Rod & Rachel dates are now announced for continental Europe.

To be going on with, here are the edited highlights from the UK tour thus far:

The weekend after Summertyne, Rod was at the Southern Fried Festival in Perth. Besides playing a scheduled concert with Rachel, he was a last-minute addition to the Roots of Elvis concert at Perth Concert Hall on the Saturday night. He sang two songs (His Latest Flame / Girl of My Best Friend) backed by the excellent house band - and without even holding a guitar. Rod shared the stage with other contributors including Rachel, Dick Gaughan, Justin Currie, Nikki King, Tim Erikson, Yolanda from Phantom Limb & many more...

The following morning, Rod held a slide guitar workshop with about 20 attendees including Tim Carroll (Elizabeth Cook's guitarist).

On the 3rd of August, Rod & Rachel recorded at live session at Broadcasting House, London, for Bob Harris Country (to be broadcast 7.00 pm on Thursday, the 19th of August). They performed two of Rachel's new songs - Here In My Bed and House Of Cards - and had good chat with Bob, covering Lindisfarne memories as well as current stuff.

Rachel & Rod pulling pints at the Old Ship Inn, Lowdham, Notts, 4.8.10. The gig organisers look on suitably impressed.

Rod with Ron Angus

Returning home from Birmingham on Friday the 6th, Rod & Rachel called in at Ron Angus's Studio One in Co. Durham so Rod could add some dobro to Rachel's forthcoming album Celilo Falls. Thanks to wonders of technology, the already-recorded track was sent across from Seattle, had Rod's part added and was sent back again.

21.07.10: Rod's extensive summer and autumn tour with with Seattle-based country/soul sensation Rachel Harrington kicks off this weekend with appearances at the SummerTyne Americana Festival at The Sage, Gateshead. This latest collaboration between Rod and the winner of the Spiral Earth award for Best Overseas Artist 2010 follows a short but enthusiastically-received run of gigs last summer.

19.07.10: A video version of New Best Friend is now on show. This is the fourth and final in the series of videos from the Last Chance Hotel sessions recorded by Rod, Allie Fox and Kathy Stewart in November 2009.

29.03.10: Rod recently made his debut screen appearance in Tramlines, a dark comedy-drama about social exclusion in a rural village community being gradually taken over by urban incomers. Scripted by journalist/playwright Lynne Harvey and directed by David Bishop, it is currently being produced by Shropshire-based Livid Film Productions and is due for its premier in the autumn. Rod plays himself, placed in the unfortunate position of having to audition some local 'talent', much against his better judgement. An early edit of Rod's cameo is available for preview.

25.01.10: Rod recently travelled the length & breadth of Great Britain as special guest on all twenty-three dates of Thea Gilmore's Wintertide Tour. Rod opened each show with a 40-minute solo set and later joined Thea, Nigel Stonier, Fluff (and occasional percussionist Dan Logan) for the closing numbers of the set – That'll Be Christmas, Midwinter Toast, St Stephen's Day Murders – and the encores, an unrehearsed performance of a 'cheesy Christmas classic' (selected by a member of the audience throwing a dart at a dartboard bearing the titles of several all-too-familiar Yuletide singalongs). Here's some footage of Thea's own definitely uncheesy classic Mainstream with some fine trademark dobro support from Rod.

25.01.10: The Half Moon in Putney, London, is to continue as a live music venue. Following a highly vocal & well-orchestrated protest campaign, landlords Young's Brewery have bowed to popular pressure and abandoned plans to turn it into a gastropub. To celebrate this victory, here is a historic photo of Rod with the Bert Jansch Band treading the hallowed boards of the Half Moon stage in April 1988. Left to right: Rod, Jacqui McShee (vocals), Luce Langridge (drums), Bert and Nigel Portman-Smith (bass). (If it had been Gerry Conway playing drums instead of Luce Langridge, it would have been Pentangle, but it wasn't.)
