Rod played slide on a couple of tracks on this album, his only contribution
to the Alan Hull solo catalogue. The songs in question are
Money and Long Way From Home - though of course, along with
Ray Laidlaw, Rod also got a mention in the lyrics of 100 Miles To
Liverpool!
A demo version of Money survived, and resurfaced on BT3. The sleeve notes to this
compilation contain a somewhat dubious statement:
'Featuring Ray Laidlaw and Rod Clements as well as Dave Denholm, this remains a unique take on
the song, as Dave was the only Lindisfarne member to appear on the final version.'
This account is flatly contradicted by the sleeve notes to Statues and Liberties, which
confirm that Rod did indeed appear on the final version. Ray admittedly did not.
Just in case there is someone out there who isn't aware of this, Rod's
working relationship with Alan went far deeper than this brief section might
suggest. The late, great, James Alan Hull was a member of
Lindisfarne from the band's inception
until his untimely demise on the 17th of November, 1995.
